UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Ibrahimovic to Miss Liverpool, AC Milan Clash
Achilles tendon problem will prevent Zlatan Ibrahimovic from playing for AC Milan in their Champions League opening match against Liverpool tonight at the Amfield.
After making a goal-scoring return from injury against Lazio in the Serie A, his coach Stefano Pioli said that Zlatan, who will turn 40 in October, had an inflammation.
Seven time European champions, Milan are making their first return to the Champions League since 2014. They have won all their three opening matches in the Serie A this season, an indication that Liverpool, who last won this competition in 2019, should be expecting a tough encounter.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool are in a very tough group. He told the BBC, “This is the strongest group we’ve had since I’ve been at Liverpool,”
Liverpool are playing in group B against AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and FC Porto.
In other UEFA Champions League matches lined up for tonight, last season’s runners-up, Manchester City will host RB Leipzig as Besiktas lurk horns with Borussia Dortmund.
Sheriff Tiraspol will host Shakhtar Donetsk while Club Bruges will tread tackles with PSG.
Atletico Madrid will confront FC Porto as Sporting host Ajax. The San Siro will be set ablaze when Inter Milan welcome Real Madrid.
