Hold Me Accountable If I Do Not Deliver On My Campaign Manifesto-Akobundu
Following the Media unveiling of the Austin Akobundu’s People-First Agenda, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), has told the people of the district to hold him accountable if he does not deliver on his manifesto.
Responding to questions from the media shortly after presenting his Campaign Manifesto, titled, “Austin Akobundu’s People-First Agenda”, at the Sacremento Event Centre, Umuahia, the PDP Senatorial candidate disclosed his readiness to fully deliver on his five point agenda,as well as facilitate constituency projects and empowerment.
According to him, he has been able to articulate the needs of the District and put them down in a document for easy checks, adding that the onus therefore lies on him to implement them.
He said he would pursue and advance democracy, freedom, quality representation, justice and fairness, while promote prosperity and citizen empowerment as dividends of democracy.
Continuing, he said he would bridge infrastructure deficit across Abia Central,enhance the security of the area by ensuring legislations and rigorous oversight on security issues to guarantee greater security across the nation,with particular reference to Abia state and Abia Central.
Akobundu equally noted that transparency, accountability and accessibility would be his watch word,as he is ready to run an open-door system that guarantees a development-based, people-owned and people-driven representation in the senate.
He added that as part of his constituency projects and empowerment deliverable target, he would empower not less than 1500 constituents yearly in various personal vocations,trades and business, facilitate the construction of modern and well equipped vocational and Skill Acquisition Centres in the six Local Government Areas that make up the Abia Central District, as well as, facilitate Care Giving Initiatives for the aged and vulnerable persons, especially in rural communities.
Similarly, he assured that he would facilitate the extensive federal government intervention towards the menace of gully erosion in communities in Abia Central, facilitate the yearly rehabilitation and construction of new blocks of classroom in schools in the area and also, facilitate rapid electrification including the provision of transformers and solar power in communities within the district.
Meanwhile, Akobundu disclosed that he would extensively facilitate the support to farmers and agro-based investors by securing greater access to agricultural inputs,among others.
Earlier in his Address, the PDP Abia Central Senatorial candidate for the 2023 General Elections, explained that his “People-First Agenda” document, derives its strength, from the wishes, aspiration and manifest Will of the people of Abia Central, in their desire for quality representation at the National Assembly.
“This vision is a Divine call in my life-long commitment towards the wellbeing of our people which is motivated by a strong demand on me from an overwhelming majority of our people whom i seek to represent at the Senate, a privilege i would not take for granted, if given the singular honor to serve.
“The Col Akobundu’s People-First Agenda Document which is being unveiled would serve as a direct statement, vision, aspiration, desire and collective hope of my dear people in Abia Central Senatorial District.
“This explains why my candidature is a peoples’ oriented project which i believe the people have resolved to actualize through me come February 25, 2023. I would ensure the wellbeing, prosperity and happiness of the people of Abia Central by hitting the ground running upon election into the Senate”,he reiterated.
He, however, called for a collective support to actualize the mandate that is centered on citizens’ empowerment, human capital and infrastructure development which would drive stronger production of goods and services through effective legislation and oversight.
In his Speech, the Director General of the Austin Akobundu’s Campaign Council, Pst Emeka Enyiama, praised the candidacy of Col Akobundu, describing him as the best man to move Abia Central forward,hence the Media unveiling of his campaign to the world.
In their Goodwill messages, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr Chris Ezem and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barr Eze Chikamnayo, described Akobundu as the only candidate for the Abia Central seat that stands tall,as he is an embodiment of character, integrity and transparency, adding that he is a man known for quality performance, excellence and effectiveness, expressing optimism that he would win the election with a great margin.
The Members Representing Umuahia South and Ikwuano State Constituencies at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Jerry Uzosike and Hon Stanley Nwabuisi respectively, assured to deliver their various Local Government Areas for PDP.
Also, the Abia State Deputy PDP chairman, Hon Nwachukwu and the Isialangwa North PDP chairman, Elder Ezindu Sam, stated that PDP is known for producing credible candidates that can match any election, disclosing that the party has been able to build a name in infrastructure, governance and others, describing candidates of other political parties as dropouts from the PDP, therefore, can not match the party and its candidates interms of quality and standard.
Furthermore, the PDP candidates for Umuahia Central State Constituency, Pst Ugochukwu Uchegbu and his Umuahia East Counterpart, Kelechi Nwakodo,in their messages, prayed for the resounding victory of the Senatorial candidate.
Highpoint of the event which witnessed the presence of top government functionaries, traditional rulers, religious rulers,party faithful across the six LGAs, media practitioners among others, was the official unveiling of the Col Akobundu’s Actionable Manifesto.
