An uncompleted building in Umuchinkata along Ameke road in Umuahia, Abia state has collapsed, trapping alot of people.
The building belonging to Mr. Ebere Ukairo which collapsed recently, trapped some persons under it who are in their shops to make ends meet and were rushed to an undisclosed hospitals as they sustained various degrees of injuries.
One the victims who owns a shop within the area, Obiageri Nwankwo thanked God they survived, adding that some of her workers sustained severe head and heart injuries as they were trapped in the rubbles.
In her words: “If not for the quick intervention of people who came to our rescue, and God’s hand, we would have been dead by now”.
“Most of us were unconscious but regained consciousness at the hospital”, she further narrated.
According to medical sources, the victims after undergoing x-rays did not sustain threats to the heart but sustained various degrees of injuries in other part of their bodies.
She lamented the owner of the collapsed three-storey building – Mr. Ebere Ukairo has not shown any sense of remorse over the incidence rather has been threatening to deal with the shop owners.
She called on Abia state government and well-meaning individuals to come to her aid as all her tailoring equipment have been destroyed by the incidence while her little savings have been used to pay her hospital bills and that of her workers.
Meanwhile, the General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr. Nwokonta Enyinnaya has vowed to deal with anyone found culpable in the building collapse.
Nwokonta who spoke with National Ambassador, sympathised with the victims, further revealed that the collapsed building was not given approval by UCDA.
“Investigation on the matter is ongoing and at appropriate time, we, as the agency of government will do the needful to forestall further occurence.
However, the building site has been sealed off by UCDA for further investigation.
